The UFOs in our back yard

https://www.valleycenter.com/articles/the-ufos-in-our-back-yard-4/

Just Last Weekend

Saturday night, Valley Center resident Manuel V. Gonzalez and his wife saw what may have been a UFO.

Let Gonzalez related the story himself. "I live in the Woods Valley community and last night about 8:30 p.m. my wife and I were sitting outside and we noticed a light traveling from the south-west to the north east at a great speed—then it stopped then took off fast. Then stopped then took off.  It did that about five times before it disappeared.  It was traveling at a great speed. It was not normal."

Readers may recall that we ran a story several issues back about Vietnam vet Chuck Lehneis who saw a UFO in the same area in 1976.

A UFO in broad daylight

Now we have a story from 1993, that happened in broad daylight.

Longtime resident Elizabeth Murphy told The Roadrunner about this encounter. She related the story exactly as I have written it down:  On a Saturday afternoon in the summer of 1993, I had just picked up my 12-year old daughter from her piano lesson and was headed for home.

"We were on Valley Road going toward Cole Grade Road. We were traveling north on Cole Grade and we made a right turn onto Cool Valley Road, where Dr. Van Wyki had his veterinary clinic.

"Suddenly my daughter and I looked at each other at the same time in disbelief at what we saw. The object (UFO) was oval shaped and dark gray in color. It was approximately 60 feet in diameter. It was about a quarter mile in front of us at eye level crossing the road. There was absolutely no sound coming from the craft. It was traveling extremely slow as it made its way across the road going from north to south.

"I speeded up quickly to get a closer view but it had totally disappeared. It was nowhere to be seen as we looked all over the sky. We also realized something strange. We saw not a soul driving on Cool Valley Road. We were the only ones on the road.

"When we arrived home, we were excited to tell the story to her father. Being very skeptical about what we had seen, he asked each of us to go to a different part of the room and draw what we had seen. In seconds, we both drew the exact same UFO craft. It was reported on the radio the day after we saw the craft. There had been sightings in Escondido. It was really something! It was such a shock to see it as we made that turn. We looked at each other. I probably would have thought I was hallucinating if she hadn't been sitting in the car. It was huge. Going across the road. No sound. This was daytime and what was so surprising was there was no one was on the road. No one was ahead of us or coming in the opposite direction."

Recently Mrs. Murphy spoke to her daughter about the incident. "She remembers seeing this craft. We didn't discuss it much after that although she remembered drawing it."

Why didn't she report the incident at that time? "I didn't because people would think you are a little wacked out," she said. "Now  can talk about it because more alien stories are coming up and many people have seen them. It's more acceptable that it was in the 1990s. There's so much going on."
