North Jersey 'UFO' Sighting Was 'Freaky But Awesome' (VIDEO)

BAYONNE, NJ — Crystal Otero and her husband know what they saw in the Bayonne night sky last weekend. The "red, fireball like object" appeared in the sky above the city around 1:30 a.m., and it was no optical illusion, the pair say.

"It was pretty awesome," Otero told Patch. "Freaky, but awesome."

According to Otero, the possible UFO sighting is eerily similar to a spotting in Belleville in February of 2016, when a local resident sent Patch a video that allegedly captured what he termed "UFOs" flying over the township and heading toward New York City around 7 p.m.

Several skeptics said that the "UFOs" in that case may have been sky lanterns, small hot air balloons made of paper.
